Local Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt today submitted his response to the South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy Preferred Option Paper, saying that local councils were on a collision course with the views of South Worcestershire residents.
On the day that the consultation period closes, Mr Burt claimed that the three councils that devised the SWJCS had 'sold local communities down the river' by committing themselves to excessive numbers for housing development.
Mr Burt said:
"There should have been far greater involvement of existing communities in South Worcestershire. Instead, people feel they are being asked to rubber stamp what the councils have already decided.
"Population growth projections for South Worcestershire from the Office of National Statistics show a far smaller increase in population by 2026 that is indicated by SWJCS plans for new build housing.
"The scale of the proposed development includes a significant element of migratory growth and makes huge assumptions about employment capacity, particularly in Wychavon and Malvern Hills districts.
"Not surprisingly, local people feel they have never been asked if they agree to the notion of migratory growth, and feel their existing communities will be devastated by these proposed developments
