Local Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, Richard Burt today welcomed the decision of the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown to proceed with the publication of receipts for Members and Peers expenses.
The move to ban publication, opposed by the Liberal Democrats, came as the Conservatives signalled their retreat from a 'behind closed doors deal' with government ministers to block publication.
Richard Burt said:
"Conservative backbenchers on the 1922 Committee, chaired by Sir Michael Spicer, wanted the ban to go ahead to keep details of their expenses secret. They should hang their heads in shame."
