Paul Keetch MP is encouraging constituents who are social housing tenants to get involved in the second phase of the Tenant Services Authority's (TSA's) National Conversation, a nationwide consultation on the future direction of social housing.
The TSA, which is the new independent regulator for social housing, wants to hear from as many social housing tenants as possible, to help it decide on new standards which landlords will be expected to follow.
A discussion paper on the draft standards that will apply to all social housing landlords in England from 2010 has been published which forms that basis of the consultation.
The MP said "I am urging everyone in Hereford and Ross-on-Wye who lives in social housing to get involved in this groundbreaking consultation. Tenants have told the TSA that they want to be involved in decisions about their homes, and they want good communication from their landlord. They want choice, particularly in relation to the repairs and maintenance service and the design of their homes. The best landlords already excel in these areas and TSA wants to hear from tenants about how further improvements can be made to improve the lives of millions of residents in England"
The consultation on the draft standards runs until 8 September 2009. The final phase will be a statutory consultation which will be launched in the Autumn 2009. Further information can be found at www.nationalconversation.co.uk or by calling 0845 230 7000.
